At the Observatory "Dob Farm" we have several Orion Intelliscope Dobsonians (dob for short).  In fact, we have at least one representative of each size, 8 inches, 10 inches and 12 inches.
These are used every night we are open for observing and are among the most popular telescopes we own.  The Intelliscopes are "hands-on friendly" and we not only allow but encourage our visitors to use them after only a few minutes instruction.  These telescopes are reasonably priced and extremely easy to use.  The only real maintenance involved, other than cool-down time, is an occasional "tweaking" of the mirror alignment, called collimation, which is easy to do after the first few times.  The dobs feature a mount that has knobs to tension it (which keeps them from slipping up or down) and it is sturdily built and very stable.

What makes an Intelliscope "intelligent" is a hand controller called a Computer Object Locator.

This hand controller allows the user to easily locate up to 14,000 objects in the sky using low tech "push-to" technology.  No motors or batteries are necessary.  You just move the telescope by hand to the object you want following the arrows in the Computer Object Locator display. Alignment of the Intelliscope is simple and the rewards are amazing!
